Former President of Ursinus College and noted economist and philosopher begins his tenure on September 1, 2021

California Institute of Integral Studies welcomes S. Brock Blomberg, PhD, as its seventh President.

An experienced senior administrator, scholar, and thought leader, Dr. Blomberg was selected following a yearlong nationwide search. He succeeds the retiring President, Dr. Judie Wexler, whose administrative tenure with CIIS began in 2002.

“Brock Blomberg’s commitment to mission-driven higher education, and his success in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) at Ursinus, was especially compelling and greatly resonated with CIIS’ approach to integral education,” said Brenda Sanders, CIIS Trustee and Co-chair of the Presidential Search Committee.

“I am so deeply honored and humbled at the opportunity to work collaboratively with the entire community to advance CIIS and its distinctive mission built on integral education,” said Dr. Blomberg. “I am most looking forward to getting to know the students, faculty, staff, alumni, and trustees; to listen to their unique stories that make CIIS the leader it has become in cutting-edge thought, social justice and sustainability, and developing programs that matter.”

Before arriving at CIIS, Dr. Blomberg was President of Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA, and Dean of the Robert Day School of Economics and Finance at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, CA, where he also served as the Peter K. Barker Professor of Economics and the George R. Roberts Fellow. Earlier, Dr. Blomberg worked as faculty at Wellesley College, and was a visiting scholar at Harvard University’s Weatherhead Center for International Affairs.

“CIIS is fortunate to have in Dr. Blomberg someone who is committed to rigorous, values-based learning, which is so important to our University, ” said Dr. Wexler. “I am confident that he will build on our mission, extending the work to make CIIS more visible in a wider array of communities.”

Dr. Blomberg is an internationally known political economist, scholar, and author, with deep roots in national and global economic policy. He served as a senior economist for the President’s Council of Economic Advisers and was the U.S. Representative to the Economic Committee for Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation. He holds a BS in Economics, with honors, from the University of Tampa, and received his MA and PhD in Economics from Johns Hopkins University.
