On Friday evening, January 8th, this year, just a month before Chinese New Year, we celebrated the launch of the new Master of Arts in Applied Psychology program at CIIS.  This program is a fully online program for students in China, delivered in Mandarin and is the result of a collaborative effort between Chinese and US based scholars and practitioners and staff. The opening ceremony, hosted by our partner Zijing Education Group in Beijing, simultaneously brought together CIIS faculty and staff on Friday night with the inaugural class of 85 students, Zijing staff, and our faculty in China on Saturday morning. It was beautifully done via zoom with simultaneous translation.

These 85 students hail from 22 provinces and cities from all of China. It is an accomplished group that includes people who have been practicing as therapists in China for many years as well as others from education, business, the arts and various industries. 17 of the students are seeking a second master's degree (including three who already have a PhD); many have certificates in specific approaches to therapy and coaching and all of the students were admitted to CIIS through application and interview by our US based faculty and staff. Dr. Glenn Hartelius and Rachael Vaughan will be teaching the first courses this semester, Introduction to Integral Psychology and The Self as Inquiry.  This program will be growing each semester as there is rolling admissions and we fully expect to develop our cultural understandings of psychology as a team.

During the ceremony, President Judie Wexler, Acting Academic Director Nicolle Zapien and Faculty Representative Rachael Vaughan gave talks and welcomed the inaugural cohort of spring 2021 in the MAP Program.  Luna Ren, managed all of the administrative details large and small as well as interpretations necessary for a smooth and professional event.

Please join us in celebrating our new addition to CIIS.
