Trauma is lodged in intolerable physical sensations: gut-wrenching feelings and heartache. When we are terrified our heart races and our breathing becomes shallower. We lose track of time, become ungrounded and, aside from swearing and pleading, are rendered dumbfounded: trapped in speechless terror.
In order to become masters of our own ship we need to develop a deep and abiding relationship with our bodies. Our ability to be aware of our bodies impacts how we process sensations and memories, and consequently, affects how we heal from traumatic events. Body awareness is an important barometer for attunement—the alignment and resonance that helps balance the emotional and mental states of ourselves and the people we work with.
Join somatic educator Licia Sky for a live online workshop on embodied awareness for healing trauma. Learn to follow the rhythms of the body through breath, heartbeat, footsteps, vocal expression, gesture, and conversation—and come into synchrony—attunement, alignment, proximity, safety, engagement, meaning making, and play. Explore exercises that guide attention to nonverbal awareness of physical sensations, orientation, attraction, and our split-second impulses and unconscious choices about relevance and safety. This workshop offers an array of nonverbal, experiential exercises drawn from theater, guided focusing, dance, meditation, yoga, bodywork, and Embodied Voice.
Learn techniques and helpful strategies to engage in healing trauma for yourself or for your clients.
This event will be hosted live online. Instructions on how to join will be included in your event confirmation email. If you need additional assistance finding or joining the event, please email publicprograms@ciis.edu.
