Diversity Book Selection

Transformative Inquiry Department 2017-2018 Book Selection

Kathy Littles, Ph.D. October 18, 2017

The Transformative Inquiry Department is happy to announce the 2017-2018 Diversity Book selection.

Since 2015, the student-led Transformative Inquiry Diversity Book Committee has chosen a book for all TID faculty and staff to read during the fall semester that adds to our understanding of diversity and inclusion.

This year, the Diversity Book Committee led by Ashley Campbell, Brian Davis, Kesley Myers, Jen Peer, Sebastian Stout, and faculty mentor Professor Leslie Combs, have chosen Transgender History by Susan Stryker. The committee will present a workshop/talk at spring 2018 Intensive that will include a book discussion and guest speakers. This year we are excited to announce that among the guest speakers, we will have the author of the book, Susan Stryker.

The Transformative Inquiry Department is proud to add this distinguished book to our previous student book selections from prior years which include: Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates, Whistling Vivaldi: How Stereotypes Affect Us and What We Can Do by Claude E. Steele and Deaf Culture: Exploring Deaf Communities in the United States by Irene W. Leigh, Andrews, and Harris.

Thank you Diversity Book Committee for this outstanding selection. We hope that the wider CIIS community will join us with this fall reading!

PLEASE NOTE: The revised edition of Transgender History: The Roots of Today's Revolution released on November 7, 2017.
