CIIS’ Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts and Writing has been a vital part of San Francisco's interdisciplinary arts community for over 10 years. The degree reflects the Bay Area’s vibrancy, ingenuity, and imagination, making it an exceptional education for writers and artists.
Our community of artmakers is eclectic. We welcome performance makers, choreographers, musicians, novelists, clowns, filmmakers, memoirists, photographers, poets, painters, mixed media, glass, textile, interdisciplinary artists—and beyond. Some students make work that doesn't fit neatly into a discipline or genre, or that stretches the boundaries of more than one form.
Our students also include people committed to arts activism and working collaboratively with artists and communities.
Through classes, workshops, and arts events, the program engages in a culture of inquiry that helps to further develop and better articulate your work. We believe that through this process of articulation in a conversation across the arts, genuine and meaningful discovery happens.
Throughout the program, students have individualized sessions with faculty advisers and can enroll in four mentorships with art professionals to hone their craft or learn new skills. This one-on-one support helps to expand your creative range and prepare for the next steps as an art professional.
