Human Sexuality Program Students

Nathalie Huitema-Nuijens holds a Master's Degree in Gerontology (Radboud University of Nijmegen, the Netherlands,) and postgraduate Degrees in Sexology and Psychology. Nathalie worked as a government licensed psychologist in nursing homes for 15 years and was the first sexologist working in a nursing home in the Netherlands. During that time, she also worked for the Center of Consultation and Expertise to support other nursing homes with their extremely complicated client cases, and as a moderator in a monthly informational meeting for caregivers and clients with Alzheimer's disease.
Nathalie's passion is enhancing the quality of life of elderly (nursing home) clients through improved sexual health. She has developed training courses for care attendants (titled Let's talk about sex); provided sexuality counseling for clients; participated in national radio and magazine interviews; presented at conferences' and participated in meetings with national organizations.
In 2013 Nathalie received the national UKON award for the most innovative care product. Nathalie is also author of the chapter ‘Sexuality' in the Handbook for Gerontology, published in the Netherlands in 2017.
Nathalie moved to the Bay Area in 2014 and is currently a PhD candidate in Human Sexuality. She also works for the Alzheimer's Association Northern California, as an early stage support group facilitator and as a volunteer lecturer (workshops/presentations).
