We are living through a global challenge where collective trauma layers are being reactivated. It’s important that we meet this moment with presence and awareness.
Trauma is both an individual and a collective issue and we are often unaware of our collective trauma because we are born into a world that has already been traumatized. Only when we consciously look at our world and unpack the larger story of the human experience and our place in the universe, can we understand our collective trauma and discover insights for healing.
Join modern mystic Thomas Hübl and cosmologist Brian Swimme for an exploration of trauma through the lens of what came before and how understanding the cosmos can illuminate new paths for healing.
Thomas and Brian will be available to respond to questions from attendees during this 90-minute free online conversation.
Thomas Hübl is a teacher, author and founder of the Academy of Inner Science. Thomas’ teaching integrates the core insights of the great wisdom traditions with the discoveries of contemporary science, illuminating both with his profound understanding. Thomas’ work combines somatic awareness practices, advanced meditative practices, and transformational processes that address both individual and collective trauma, opening the potential for growth and healing. Thomas has guided large-scale healing events that have brought together thousands of Germans and Israelis to acknowledge, face and heal the cultural shadow left by the Holocaust. Thomas has worked with tens of thousands of people worldwide through workshops, multi-year training programs and online courses. He is also the founder of the nonprofit Pocket Project, which aims to increase awareness and understanding of collective trauma and reduce its effects. Through his nonprofit organization, Thomas seeks to facilitate conscious cultural change with initiatives such as the popular Celebrate Life Festival, a multi-day immersive event which takes place annually in either Germany or the U.S. Thomas’ forthcoming book on collective trauma will be published in 2020.
Brian Thomas Swimme received his PhD from the Department of Mathematics at the University of Oregon in 1978 for work in gravitational dynamics. Brian brings the context of story to our understanding of the fourteen billion year trajectory of the universe. Such a story, he feels, will assist in the emergence of a flourishing Earth community.
Brian is the author of The Hidden Heart of the Cosmos and The Universe is a Green Dragon. Brian is also the co-author of several books, Manifesto for a Global Civilization with Matthew Fox, The Universe Story with Thomas Berry, and The Journey of the Universe, with Mary Evelyn Tucker. Brian is also the creator of three educational video series: "Canticle to the Cosmos," "Earth's Imagination," and "The Powers of the Universe." Most recently Brian hosted the 60 minute film "Journey of the Universe," broadcast on PBS television stations nationwide and winner of the Northern California regional Emmy for Best Documentary in 2011.
