Additional Information: CYC has had many CIIS students as Trainees and Interns over the last 10 years, both Masters and doctoral level. This is an ideal practicum if you want to work with teenagers and their families in doing individual and family therapy, with highly diverse youth population. This is usually a school-based practicum, where we will assign you to provide therapy at one or two SF public schools (usually high school or middle school, though elementary now possible). You will have your own caseload of clients weekly. In this role, you will do assessment, DSM-5 diagnosis, treatment planning and both short and long term therapy.
You will also be certified as a community mental health provider under the San Francisco Department of Public Health and be well trained in compliance, documentation and delivery of mental health services. Our graduates get jobs very quickly with agencies in the San Francisco Community Behavioral Health system because they have been well prepared to work in these settings. If the COVID-19 quarantine is still occurring during Fall 2021-22 academic year, this practicum will still operate, but all clinical and training activity will be virtual until the SFUSD re-opens for live service.
