Despite having survived, traumatized individuals are left with a confused sense of what happened to them. Their continuing sense of threat keeps trauma alive by re-activating their survival defenses.  Unaware that these reactions are feeling memories held in the body, they assume that they are still in danger or somehow at fault.

Without a way to understand their sensory and feeling memories, survivors of trauma come to either distrust themselves, distrust others, and still feel unsafe. They experience the same emotions of shame, fear, anger, and hopelessness over and over again. Telling the story of what they remember sometimes brings relief but does not resolve the living legacy of traumatic reactions that continue to torment them day after day.

Join international trauma expert and clinical psychologist Janina Fisher for a workshop examining the living legacy of trauma. Drawing from her work developing the Fragmented Selves approach, or Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST), Janina teaches participants how to assess and make sense of trauma-based symptoms, such as dysregulated autonomic arousal, overwhelming emotions and sensations, intrusive images, numbing, and disconnection. Discover how understanding these effects helps in managing these overwhelming reactions.

Through a mix of presentation, videos, and experiential exercises, participants explore how to transform our relationship to painful feelings and events. We cannot change the past, but we can change how the past affects us in the present.

Teachings are appropriate for healthcare professionals as well as the general public. Healthcare professionals will be able to incorporate the tools and practices offered in this program in ways beneficial to clients or patients.
