Biography

Walter Sipe, MD, is a psychiatrist with an active clinical and teaching practice. Trained in both pediatrics and psychiatry, he brings a strong developmental perspective to his work as a psychotherapist. In addition to co-teaching in the Sex Therapy Certificate Program at CIIS, he holds joint appointments as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) in the Departments of Psychiatry and Pediatrics, where he supervises residents in psychotherapy and mind-body interactions.

He has particular expertise in applying Acceptance & Commitment Therapy to sexual trauma, and lectures and consults widely on the long-term impacts and treatment of childhood sexual abuse. He also co-leads workshops for couples with his wife, Zoe Sipe.

His education includes Harvard College, residencies at Boston Children's Hospital and Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute, and a fellowship at UCSF Children's Hospital.
