Politicized Somatics for Embodied Transformation

A Workshop with Staci K. Haines

Moving through the world as a compassionate, sensitive person in our current political and economic times can feel like an overwhelming goal. How can we be in our lives, within our shared world, and be able to return to a place of center, care, and skillful action? This often takes embodied transformation and purposeful practice that is aligned with a deep commitment to the kind of people we want to be in our moment in history.

Working with our somas, our mind-body experience, seems more important than ever. What new ways of embodied processing do we need in these times? Are you able to stay present with yourself and the world at the same time? Are your actions aligned with your values, or do you feel at a loss?

Join Staci K. Haines, a leader in the field of somatics for an experiential workshop on embodied change through somatic practice and opening. Staci guides participants through a method for embodied transformation that integrates personal experiences and social systems while revealing how they are unique but inseparable.

Experience somatic opening techniques to work with the increased anxiety, change and existential questions that we, our clients, and communities are asked to face. Discover your embodied reactions, conditioned tendencies, and survival strategies and understand how they took care of you. Learn body-based processes to affirm these strategies and allow for change. Staci shares ways of strengthening our resilience with a social justice lens and shares how to grow the ability to work with contradictions through the body.

Staci invites you to learn practices that grow our capacity to live, love, and lead while navigating contradictions.

Staci K. Haines has been experimenting at the intersections of personal and social transformation for the last 30 years through the work of somatics, trauma healing, embodied leadership, and transformative justice. She is the author of The Politics of Trauma: Somatics, Healing and Social Justice (North Atlantic Books 2019), which has been translated into German, and Healing Sex: A Mind Body Approach to Healing Sexual Trauma (Cleis 1999, 2007), which has been translated into German, Japanese and Spanish.

Staci is an innovator in the field of somatics, focusing on how it can bring transformative capacity to social and climate justice movements and help heal the impacts of trauma and oppression. She runs online and in-person programs and teacher trainings, and partners with social and climate justice organizations. She co-founded generative somatics, a multiracial organization dedicated to building social justice capacity. She served as a senior teacher at the Strozzi Institute and played a central role in shaping its methodology. In 1999, Staci founded generationFIVE, a transformative justice non-profit committed to ending child sexual abuse within five generations.

Some of Staci’s current partners include Healing Justice London, Freedom Together Foundation, Equality Lab, and Oak Foundation. She also partners online with Transformative Change, the Trauma Research Foundation, Embody Lab, Embodywise and others.
