Burnout, whether it be professional, creative, autistic, or ADHD burnout, is a fact of life for most working adults, but many people lack the tools they need to truly recover from it. Even those of us who have tried therapy or self-help guides in the past may continue to cycle in and out of burnout for years, unable to find something that really works. Understanding the profound lessons in natural cycles can help us unpack burnout and explore our own potential for healing and growth.
Join author Alicia King Anderson for a supportive conversation exploring a holistic and neurodivergent-friendly approach to burnout and recovery. In her latest book, Burnout Recovery, Alicia draws upon her training in ecopsychology, mythology, and depth psychology to examine all kinds of burnout, including autistic and ADHD burnout, creative burnout, and professional burnout.
She argues that to understand burnout, we must consider the entire network of intersecting stresses in our life: physical, psychological, sensory, social, environmental, and political. Alicia offers guidance for identifying burnout and understanding where you are in the burnout cycle. She shares how examining the natural cycle of wildfire can help us explore our own potential for recovery after a “burn” period. She also introduces grief work as an essential part of burnout recovery and discusses how to let go of idealized and unsustainable versions of yourself.
Whether you’re looking for support for your own burnout cycle, or supporting clients, this conversation will provide practical tools for getting beyond short-term recovery toward a more sustainable, nourishing and meaningful life.
