In May 2021, CIIS had the honor of hosting the 27th annual Lavender Language and Linguistic Conference. Participants from around the world delivered papers that closely examined the ways language and discourse shape identity, sexuality, political rhetoric, and our intimate understanding of ourselves. The Lavender Languages and Linguistics conference, dedicated to language and sexuality research, has run annually since 1993.

Though the conference was held online, it retained its inclusive, supportive atmosphere, by welcoming students and scholars with interest in language and sexuality.

More About The Conference

Have you ever wondered why talk about sexuality is everywhere? How certain identities have formed or how slurs around sex, sexuality, and gender persist? Interested in how political talk impacts our intimate understandings of ourselves?

If so, then join us at the Lavender Languages and Linguistics conference held at California Institute of Integral Studies. Participants from around the world will deliver papers that closely examine these questions. Students, activists, and early career scholars are encouraged to attend.
