Additional Information

We will be looking for two practicum trainees in Fall 2026. We provide trauma-focused therapy to survivors of domestic violence/intimate partner violence, and children who have witnessed violence in the home. We provide therapy to individuals who are residing in YWCA's Safe House shelter, children attending YWCA's therapeutic preschool, clients and families referred to us by CPS, and community members who have self-referred.

Prior to starting, everyone who works for our agency receives a 40-hour training in Domestic Violence and working with survivors. All clinicians in our therapy center are trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy prior to seeing clients. We do not have one modality we use across all clients, and we encourage trainees and associates to use their time here to try different models and then discuss in clinical supervision and use what works best for each client and each clinician. We provide trainings in the basics of several models, including CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, IFS, and other trauma-focused models.

A typical week for a practicum trainee would be 9-10 clients per week, two hours of group supervision, and one hour of individual supervision. Both of our supervisors are LMFTs. We have an every-other-week team meeting for one hour, and an every-other-week team training for one hour. Training topics include risk assessment, complex trauma, play therapy, DBT, and many other topics. We have an Intake Coordinator who schedules clients, so clinicians meet their clients during the first session. The first 1-2 sessions are for assessment and treatment planning, then clients are seen once a week after that.
