Research Centers and Initiatives
Suporting innovative exploration of media, conciousness, and psychedelic medicine.
The China Projects Initiative at California Institute for Integral Studies (CIIS) offers an exciting new dimension to integral education, East/West dialogue, social consciousness, and mental health development.
Responding to China's growing need for experts in counseling psychology, CIIS has, since 2015, extended its community to bring together Chines students and professionals and U.S. psychology faculty, through a series of certificate programs, lectures and workshops, academic exchange, and social outreach.
Thanks to the generosity and support of Michael Guanjun Li and Eadie Hua Chen, CIIS is thrilled to announce the official opening of its Beijing Office in September 2018. Their $500,000 donation will allow the China Projects Initiative to grow in its effort to transform the lives of Chinese individuals and communities.
CIIS' Center for Psychedelic Therapy and Research educates the public and professionals about the research and clinical use of psychedelic medicine. The Center offers a Certificate in Psychedelic Assisted Therapies and Research to educate licensed psychotherapy and medical professionals on the use of psychedelic medicine in FDA-approved clinical studies. The Center also offers lectures and programs to the public on psychedelic medicine and therapies several times a year.
Since its origins in the mid-20th century CIIS has been committed to the exploration of the nature and potentials of human consciousness. This commitment is embraced and embodied by its many programs, ranging from Asian philosophy to integral psychology and counseling, and on through women’s spirituality, ecology, creative arts, and many more.
The goals of the Center for Consciousness Studies are to elevate CIIS to international prominence in the field of consciousness studies, and to support and facilitate consciousness studies both inside and beyond the institute. The Center also acts as a clearinghouse for faculty members and students from CIIS and outside who are interested in the field of consciousness studies.
Drawing upon the programs within the School of Consciousness & Transformation, the Center for Transformative Media provides revolutionary courses in media skills, theory, strategy, and design. From archetypal storytelling, to documentary shorts for social justice, to the power of new media to create and document performance, CTM connects students with leaders in the fields of film, media, art, and activism.
While primarily focused on offering courses that empower students' visions and work, the future aim of CTM is to evolve to include an on-site media facility and production studio.
