About the Expressive Arts Therapy Alumni Panelists:
Phil Weglarz has served as core faculty in the Expressive Arts Therapy concentration at CIIS since Fall 2012. As a licensed California Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) and Registered Expressive Art Therapist (REAT), Phil's work has focused on the integration of a wide range of artistic and cultural practices in meeting the mental health needs of children, adults, families, and communities.
Jill Therrien is an expressive arts therapist, educator, and intuitive astrologer. Jill has a private practice with a wide range of wellness services and professional consultation. She primarily sees clients looking for an alternative to psychotherapy. Working from an integrative approach, Jill offers Narrative Expressive Arts Therapy from a Relational-Cultural therapeutic stance.
Daniela Portillo is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist at a counseling center in Downtown San Mateo. Daniela predominantly works with POC teens and adults and enjoys every second of it. Daniela is continuing to work on strengthening her EXA therapist role since graduating in 2020. Since graduating, Daniela has spent most of her time figuring out what work-life balance is and spending her energy on things that bring her joy. She also has had the opportunity to co-author a Therapist Manual for native and non-native Spanish speakers to help bridge the gap between mental health services and the Latinx community.
Perla Cerna (she/her/ella) is a Mexican-American bilingual Registered Associate MFT residing in Modesto, CA. Her background includes working in school-based settings, hospice and bereavement and multicultural arts based programs within the Central Valley. She is currently a clinical coordinator at a non-profit, overseeing various school and community based clinicians throughout Stanislaus county and a clinician at a group private practice where she sees clients of diverse backgrounds. She graduated from the Expressive Arts Therapy program at CIIS in 2020 and uses her skills learned to teach others in her community about expressive arts.
