Research Psychology Ph.D. Programs at CIIS

CIIS' Research Psychology Ph.D. programs are conducted primarily online, with two intensives per year, in-person in fall, virtual in spring. They are both designed for part-time attendance.

The programs do not prepare students for licensure as psychological counselors, psychotherapists, or clinical psychologists. However, the degree is designed to serve students who have earned master’s in counseling or psychotherapy. It is expected that some of these students will pursue further doctoral studies researching topics related to counseling psychology, such as integral psychotherapy, somatic psychology, expressive arts therapy, drama therapy, and community mental health.

Integral and Transpersonal Psychology

The Integral and Transpersonal Psychology concentration focuses on whole-person approaches to research and systematic knowledge-building. Whole-person psychologies expand the horizons of psychology to include the body’s ways of knowing and moving as an expression of the interconnected living, breathing systems of community, society, and world.

Somatic Psychology

The Somatic Psychology concentration approaches psychology from the lived experience of being human, and then invites in academic rigor as an ally in building a more insightful, effective psychology of the living person. Somatic Psychology is at the heart of mind-body inquiry and on the frontier of exploration into embodied consciousness.
