Dear CIIS Community,

As we approach the beginning of Fall classes, I want to be sure everyone is prepared for a successful semester.

As of 8/20 the City and County of San Francisco is requiring proof of full vaccination to enter most public facilities, including institutions of higher learning.   CIIS currently has a proof of vaccine requirement beginning 9/15, and we will need to make some operational modifications to account for the gap between 8/20 and 9/15 as we come into full compliance at the Mission Street campus with the SF Department of Public Health requirements.

We have twenty-eight classes scheduled to meet at the Mission campus beginning 8/26/21.  These classes will now be meeting virtually until the 9/15 requirement already in place is active. Online learning has created the Zoom links for the virtual meetings and will send them out before classes meet.  Classes will meet virtually at the regularly scheduled times, so there will be no disruption to your schedules.

We must take this step for the safety and well-being of our entire community. To date our vaccination verification rates for in-person classes are concerning; only 60 % of students and 79% of faculty have verified their vaccination status; we need to be at 100% to hold classes in person.

Students who have not submitted their proof of vaccination to Med + Proctor for verification or been exempted through the exemption process by the September 15 deadline will need to drop their in-person courses and enroll in courses that are being offered virtually or online or be deregistered from their in-person courses.  ALL students must be fully vaccinated andverified (or have an exemption) by September 15 to take in-person courses.  Only online and virtual classes will remain open to un-verified students.

Please confirm your vaccination status with Med + Proctor without delay; the capacity to have a vibrant and rich semester depends on each of us doing our part.  You should have received an email from Med + Proctor (check your CIIS mail and spam folders) with a link to the verification site.  If you do not see anything from Med + Proctor, please contact the Operations team at right away.  They will be sure you are sent the necessary information to complete the verification process.

The challenges of the pandemic are real and stunningly mutable.  Things change often, sometimes daily, and as a community we have navigated them well to this point.  We will continue our daily monitoring of the situation and be in communication as there are shifts in local, state, or national requirements, along with any adjustments needed from CIIS.  In closing I’d like to thank you all and wish everyone a good semester!
