Dear Community,

On Friday, July 17, San Francisco was one of eight Bay Area counties added to the state's watch list due to heightened COVID-19 transmission and hospitalization rates. As a result, the city is rolling back some of its reopening guidelines. Since we had planned for the Fall semester to be mostly virtual, that continues. As of now, one ICP course and a few ACTCM courses and clinicals will have some face-to-face sections; we are hoping that by the end of August such in-person classes will be possible. If San Francisco officials reverse the current policy, we will let you know.

We are also continuing with plans for greater access to the building starting in August. Student access to the buildings is scheduled to begin on August 17.  The extent to which we can do that depends upon city regulations at that time. Please remember that anyone who comes into the building will have their temperature taken; will be asked screening questions related to COVID symptoms; and must wear a mask.

The one thing the pandemic has taught us is that the situation is constantly changing. In order to keep our community safe, we are following the best scientific knowledge and advice of health experts as well as the regulations set by the city and the state. We will continue to monitor regulations, review our plans as the pandemic evolves and adjust as necessary.

The CIIS community is still very active. I encourage you to check out Public Programs online events, as well as events hosted by individual programs. Online learning is also offering core and adjunct faculty programs for teaching online.

To be sure, the last five months have tested our resilience. As summer is well underway, I hope you and yours are finding ways to enjoy the season. Above all, I hope you are staying well.
