Join poet and scholar Cameron Awkward-Rich for a conversation on his life and poetry including selected readings of his work. His collection of poems, Sympathetic Little Monster broke new ground in Trans, Queer, Black, and American poetry.
Cameron Awkward-Rich is the author of Sympathetic Little Monster (Ricochet Editions, 2016) and the chapbook Transit (Button Poetry, 2015). A Cave Canem fellow and poetry editor for Muzzle Magazine, his poetry has appeared in Narrative, The Baffler, Indiana Review and elsewhere. Cam received his PhD in ModernThought and Literature at Stanford University, and he is currently a Postdoctoral Associate within the Gender, Sexuality and Feminist Studies program at Duke University.
Monica Mody is the author of KALA PANI (1913 Press) and two cross-genre chapbooks. Her work has appeared in Poetry International, Dusie, The Volta, iArtistas, The HarperCollins Book of English Poetry by Indians, and other places. She received the 2010 Sparks Prize Fellowship at the University of Notre Dame where she was awarded an MFA in Creative Writing, and the 2016-17 Cultural Integration Fellowship Integral Scholarship at CIIS. Her doctoral research at CIIS engages the Anzaldúan borderlands for South Asian women across transnational and other borders.
