Poet and scholar Cameron Awkward Rich's collection of poems, Sympathetic Little Monster broke new ground in Trans, Queer, Black, and American poetry. Join writer and curator James Fleming for a conversation with Cam on his life and poetry including selected readings of his work.
Cameron Awkward-Rich is the author of Sympathetic Little Monster (Ricochet Editions, 2016) and the chapbook Transit (Button Poetry, 2015). A Cave Canem fellow and poetry editor for Muzzle Magazine, his poetry has appeared in Narrative, The Baffler, Indiana Review and elsewhere. Cam received his PhD in Modern Thought and Literature at Stanford University, and he is currently a Postdoctoral Associate within the Gender, Sexuality and Feminist Studies program at Duke University.
James Fleming is a writer and curator exploring the intersection of performance, the image, and poetry. He currently produces Pure Futures, an arts publication and pop-up exhibition exploring questions of utopia in art, tech, and design through the lens of a queer political and aesthetic imagination. His latest work can be seen in SFMOMA's Open Space.
