Biography
Dr. Samantha Costa, Ph.D., is a recent graduate of the Women’s Spirituality program at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS). Her dissertation focused on the intersection of religion and mental health for transgender youth, identifying "The Freedom Milestones" in their spiritual journey. Dr. Costa's postdoctoral research examines the impact of psychedelic plant medicine on transgender patients post-gender affirming surgery. Additionally, she is writing a book on these milestones for youth. With an M.A. and Ph.D. from CIIS, Samantha's academic expertise lies in transgender studies, queer theory, and spirituality. Committed to anti-racism, she fosters inclusive learning environments and actively engages in LGBTQIA+ activism since 2002, collaborating with organizations like The Trevor Project and Prism Sanctuary.
