Biography
Robert Koffman, M.D., MPH, is the former Medical Director for the Semper Fi Fund/America’s Fund (2015-2019) and served for 32 years as a naval medical officer, psychiatrist, and aerospace medicine physician. Lauded for his work in integrative medical practices, Koffman was hand selected by the inaugural Director of the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE), Dr. James Kelly, to craft the nation’s renowned, evidenced-based holistic recovery program for combat wounded veterans at the (NICoE)—a facility where he continues to volunteer his services as a Red Cross provider. A board-certified psychiatrist, he completed naval residencies in San Diego (Psychiatry) and Pensacola (Aerospace Medicine), earned his doctorate from the University of Santo Tomas, and obtained his MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health (psychiatric epidemiology). Deploying to Desert Storm, Operational Iraqi Freedom (OIF), and Enduring Freedom, he has provided frontline behavioral health services in a multitude of maritime, combat, and peace-keeping operations. A disabled veteran himself, Koffman has dedicated himself to improving the delivery of mental health care in operational settings and is a passionate advocate for increasing access of non-stigmatizing psychological services. As a 2021 graduate of the CPTR from CIIS, Koffman is the Military and Veteran Liaison for Sunstone Therapies in Rockville, MD, where he contributes to the body of much needed research in one of the most promising behavioral health treatments for the hidden wounds of war—psychedelic-assisted therapies.
