Biography
Dr. Ariana Steele is an Assistant Professor of Applied Linguistics and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Penn State. An interdisciplinary scholar, their research interests are broad, but all come back to the semiotic uses of power and subversion for multiply marginalized people. Their work currently explores the impacts of normativities, hegemony, and intersecting structural oppressions on the ways in which queer and trans people of color engage in identity work and sociolinguistic meaning.
