Biography

Dr. Andel V. Nicasio, Ph.D., M.S., M.S.Ed., is a clinical psychologist, researcher, and educator dedicated to addressing mental health disparities in underserved communities. She is an Associate Professor in the Clinical Psychology Ph.D. Program and Co-Director of the Center for Trauma, Stress, and Health at Albizu University in Puerto Rico. Dr. Nicasio specializes in trauma recovery, telehealth, and scalable interventions for post-disaster resilience. Her research focuses on adapting and testing scalable prevention and treatment interventions for trauma and post-disaster recovery for individuals from diverse backgrounds. 
In addition to her research, Dr. Nicasio serves on the Advisory Committee for the American Psychological Association (APA) on Climate Change, helping shape policies that address the psychological impact of environmental crises. She is also a board member of the Evidence-Based Practices for Puerto Rico, advocating for effective mental health solutions within the region, and the Dominican Women’s Development Center, a non-profit organization serving Latinx families in New York. 
Dr. Nicasio is recognized for her contributions to the development of the Cultural Formulation Interview in the DSM-5, as well as her extensive work in scientific publications, training programs, and conferences at local, national, and international levels. She has received awards for her research and community leadership both nationally and in Puerto Rico.
