Matthew J. Dillon is a historian of religions specializing in the reception of ancient Gnostic scriptures, philosophies, and mythemes in American religion and culture. He received his Ph.D. in Religion at Rice University and is currently a post-doctoral fellow in the Transcendence and Transformation Initiative at Harvard Divinity School. His first book, The Kingdom is Within You: The Lost Gospels and Post-Christianity in America will be published with the University Press of Virginia. He has also published articles on neo-Gnostic churches, psychoanalysis and Gnosticism, conspiracy theories, and the comic book author Grant Morrison.
