Jesus Solorio, Chicano was born and raised in Los Angeles by migrant parents from Michoacán, Mexico. He earned his Masters degree in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Community Mental Health from the California Institute of Integral Studies and is currently registered as a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern. Jesus currently works at La Familia Counseling Service in Hayward in the Cultura y Bienestar Program and at the Community Mental Health Certificate Program at City College of San Francisco. He also offers healing and therapeutic drum circles for young boys of color who have experienced trauma at various middle and high schools in the east bay. His work is trauma informed, strength-based and is infused with indigenous worldview and spirituality. A major tenet of his work is La Cultura Cura, recognizing that indigenous culture and spirituality is key to healing from intergenerational trauma for men of color and in particular men who are descendant of Mexico.
Previously, Jesus was the Associate Director and Senior Program and Research Associate for California Tomorrow where as part of a team he designed, conducted, analyzed and published field and academic research with an emphasis on strengthening and creating a public school system that embraces and serves all communities with the goal of providing high quality, culturally and linguistically appropriate instruction, programs and services.
His academic and research interests include indigenous and cultural healing practices, cultural identity development, the wellness and recovery model, liberation psychology, and community-defined praxis. He is an Aztec Dancer and Drummer with Danza Mexica Nanahuatzin. This is a spiritual and ceremonial practice as well as a practice of decolonization and healing.
