Theater for Change Presents BREAKING NEWS!
A project of the Drama Therapy Program
Theatre for Change's new original theatre piece, Breaking News!, explores the impact of devastating political news and social media on our psyches, and the ways that news is not only breaking our hearts, but also impacting individuals in particular ways based on their identities and nationalities. The situation is further complicated by the fact that some identities don't fit into single categories, and “categories” are increasingly polarized (from without and within), which exacerbates isolation and the longing for belonging.
Breaking News! runs approximately 75 minutes without intermission.

What Is Theatre for Change?
Theatre for Change is a project of the CIIS Drama Therapy program. The aim of the project is to educate, raise consciousness, and expand perspective related to social justice issues; to reflect on timely matters related to diversity; and to encourage Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s concept of “beloved community” (at CIIS and beyond).
Theatre for Change performance pieces grow out of improvisation; methods of drama therapy, Self-Revelatory Performance, Educational Theatre, and Theatre of the Oppressed; listening to stories within the group; and a lot of dialogue. Each original theatre piece is collectively developed by the troupe and director(s). Theatre for Change productions have also been performed at many North American Drama Therapy Association conferences. In 2012, the NADTA honored Theatre for Change with the Raymond Jacobs Memorial Diversity Award in recognition of outstanding dedication to diversity in the field of drama therapy.
