CIIS adheres to regulations, and follows guidelines, issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the California Department of Public Health, and the San Francisco Department of Public Health. The university is committed to providing a safe and healthy campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Accordingly, certain requirements are in place regarding proof of vaccination, exemption from vaccination, adherence to health form screening, and recommended masking. CIIS recognizes that some members of our community desire more stringent measures, however, safety regulations need to be realistically enforceable, and not overly onerous or costly to administer and track.
As of January 2023, and until further notice, the following policies and processes are being enforced:
Proof of vaccination is required to enter the Mission or Arkansas buildings. Exemption from this requirement must be approved in advance (see Vaccination Exemption Policy and Procedure below).
Use this link to register with Med + Proctor, and this link to see instructions for uploading your vaccination card. You will need your CIIS email or MyMail address to log in, and the capability to upload a photo or PDF document. This service is free; ignore any prompts about payment. Please note that it takes up to 72 hours for your verification to appear on the site. Med + Proctor is a third-party vendor that is fully HIPAA and FERPA compliant.
Once verified by Med + Proctor, please request a sticker at the Mission campus lobby front desk to place on your ID card so that you can show that you have been successfully verified when you enter campus.
Anyone entering the Mission Street Building needs to complete a Health Screening Form for each day’s entry. The form may be completed online 12 hours in advance or in-person on site at the lobby reception desk. It takes about 30 seconds. This short form affirms that you are fully vaccinated.
Questions about the vaccination verification process may be addressed to VaxVerify@ciis.edu.
The City and County of San Francisco hosts a website that helps in finding vaccine appointments for those who live, work, or learn in San Francisco. Other vaccination and testing sites near CIIS can be found here.
Masking – Mission Campus
Although not required, we strongly advise wearing a mask, and we encourage consideration for others in respecting students' and colleagues’ requests to mask. N95 or KN95 masks are recommended rather than cloth masks.
Masking - Arkansas Street Campus
Because of the onsite acupuncture clinic and the medical nature of work and classes being conducted at the Arkansas Street Campus (ACTCM), masks are required at all times indoors.
Remote Access to Onsite Classes
Students in onsite classes who cannot attend in person due to a positive Covid test result, and who wish to request virtual access, need to contact their instructor. Accommodations for these situations are decided by the applicable academic program/department.
Vaccination Exemption Policy and Procedure for Students, Faculty, and Staff at Both Campuses
CIIS recognizes that, in rare instances, members of our community with verified medical vulnerability, or sincerely held religious belief, might qualify for exemption. Documentation will be required as part of this process. Submit an exemption request by completing this form. Approved exemptions are good for a period of one calendar year from the date of issuance and must be renewed after the one-year expiration. Your exemption status will be kept confidential.
If granted exemption, you will be expected to follow an alternative protocol for the health and safety of the community. This will include use of masks at all times while indoors, including rest break and bathroom facilities; use of masks while outdoors when unable to maintain 6 feet of physical distance from others, and in other settings as deemed necessary by the CIIS Director of Facilities and Operations.
For questions or concerns about the exemption process, please email: email@example.com.
