In late October, the Human Sexuality PhD program held a day-long workshop called Getting a Seat At The Table: Leadership And Strategy On Sexuality Matters. Nineteen sexuality educators, therapists, entrepreneurs, and activists from China joined us for the workshop, which was part of a two-week long institute called Holistic Sexuality for Chinese Students and Professionals and was sponsored by the China Projects at CIIS.

Dr. Michelle Marzullo, our program chair, was joined for one workshop session by adjunct faculty John Elia and student Roger Kuhn, as well as San Francisco luminaries Carol Queen, Jamison Green, and Sangita Devaskar, to discuss how professionals engaging sexuality education, sex therapy, business pursuits, and LGBTQ and sexual freedom advocacy develop their craft and sustain their work both personally and financially. Two UC-Berkeley trained linguists, Suzanne Wertheim and Orchid Pusey, joined Dr. Marzullo to discuss how to strategically use linguistic techniques for community outreach, brand positioning, and political messages.
