Dr. Meg Jordan was invited to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, GA in January 2016. She was asked to give a talk and be part of a panel presentation for the U.S. Healthiest conference.
The talk was on work/life balance and wellness at academic institutions.
The panel trends in worksite health promotion and barriers to employer and employee engagement. Dr. Jordan focused on how community resilience can be bolstered through high-engagement wellness cultures. She also described the dire consequences when resources and social systems undergo frequent, sustained, and surprised stressors or "attacks."
On the positive side, Dr. Jordan identified the dimensions of wellness that can support a healthy worksite or academic culture, and the strategies to bolster each of the dimensions (intellectual, physical, emotional, occupational, environmental, social, recreational.)
Other panelists included Mayo Clinic's Chief Strategist, Ohio State's Chief Wellness Officer and AVP, American Heart Association's Chief Science Officer, and the President of American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
