Dr. Denise Boston, core faculty member of the Expressive Arts Therapy program, recently published an essay, Expressive Arts Therapy: Responding to Traumatic and Emotional Experiences in the RSF quarterly newsletter. In this powerful essay, Denise illustrates how an Expressive Arts based approach has been effective in the treatment of individuals with serious mental illness as well as people who struggle with traumatic life events such as hunger and food insecurity, violence, cultural stigmatization and social trauma. Denise uses personal experience and stories from her work with clients to describe how an "imaginative and creative process is a doorway into self-reflective and inner work and self-empowerment."
