The merger makes the headlines.
Acupuncture Today, the pre-eminent publication for the acupuncture and Oriental medicine community, in its August issue gives top billing to the ACTCM-CIIS merger with the article, "Merger Creates New Model of Care."
The featured story, penned by Crsytal Erlendson, describes the historic union of the two institutions and introduces their new doctoral program--the Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (DACM)--the first professional doctorate in the field that is both nationally (ACAOM) and regionally (WASC) approved.
It also outlines their new global partnerships across the Pacific in counseling psychology and Chinese medicine with numerous universities and organizations in Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou and Zhengzhou
The coming together of "two San Francisco powerhouses of holistic healing, the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and California Institute of Integral Studies, " means a visionary approach to applied integral health, says the article.
The merger also represents the modeling of new methods in acupuncture education for students, health practitioners, and the San Francisco Bay Area communities.
On July 1, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee and the Board of Supervisors recognized the official merger date with a Certificate of Honor proclaiming it, Mind, Body, and Spirit Day.
According to Steve Given, ACTCM Director of Clinical Education and Academic Assessment, the "holistic approach is one of many that unites the philosophies behind the work of ACTCM and CIIS students and faculty." It's one that he believes will be at the "forefront of the clinical and academic collaboration between the two institutions," the article goes on to say.
Acupuncture Today, first published in January 2000, caters to acupuncturists, doctors of Oriental medicine, acupuncture students, and suppliers.
