Discussing Death = Better Living Today
The CIIS Alumni Office hosted two events focused on the difficult subject of death—and how facing death can enrich your life.
In connection with this autumn’s launch of the CIIS Heritage Society, the Alumni Office hosted two evenings where participants dialogued about the importance of facing death as a motivation for more conscious living. The first event, a Death Café, allowed for a spirited discussion of the factors contributing to a "good death."
The second event featured Michael Hebb, author of Let’s Talk About Death (over Dinner), in conversation with Laurel Braitman, Writer-in-Residence at the Stanford University School of Medicine. As Michael notes, "how we end our lives is the most important and costly conversation America is not having." Laurel suggests that conversations among loved ones, friends, and even strangers could begin to shift our discomfort with death, which is a natural part of living.
