CIIS Graduate Launches India's First Health Coaching Certificate
CIIS graduate Preeti Rao and Professor Meg Jordan introduce health coaching in India
CIIS Professor Dr. Meg Jordan and Integrative Health Studies graduate Preeti Rao were recently featured in articles by Indian news publications DNA India and India West discussing the launch of the country's first health coaching program.
Rao, a 2012 CIIS graduate, founded the WELLNESSjiva Institute in New Delhi, India to help address a growing need for health coaches well-versed in a holistic self care approach. She invited Dr. Jordan, a leading figure in the integrative health coaching field, to help train the first group of Indian wellness coaches.
"It's exciting to bring this health coaching program to India. India, like many parts of the world, largely adopted the standard U.S. diet and sedentary lifestyle, and ever since, the rates of obesity, diabetes and other chronic diseases have escalated," Jordan said. "The need for preventive services is significant. It seems only right to export something that helps people avoid the worst elements of that lifestyle, and apply cutting-edge methods to change behavior and mindset for optimizing health and well-being."
Our award winnning Integrative Health Studies program is a 36-unit Masters of Arts program that prepares students to sit for the credential exam offered by the National Consortium for Credentialing Health and Wellness Coaches (NCCHWC). You can read both news articles below and learn more about the program here.
Gathered in a well-lit room in Delhi suburbs are five young Delhi professionals, all under 30, who have recently suffered major health setback. They are attending their weekly counselling session on how to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
India's first certification in health coaching arrives in January 2017, a program pioneered by the California Institute of Integral Studies. The program will expand to India the first week of January 2017 for a premier launch, in partnership with WELLNESSjiva Institute in New Delhi.
