The Bay Area Reporter does a great job in its article about Andrea Gibson's upcoming performance, her conversation with MFA alum Ahmunet Jessica Jordan, and the aims of Public Programs & Performances and CIIS.
Public Programs & Performances has presented many musical artists over the years. But a spoken word artist is a departure. We easily could have spent many hours deliberating the merits of such a change.
But not with this poet.
Andrea Gibson, the first winner of the Women of the World Poetry Slam, has made her name talking about war, bullying, white privelege, body image, and sexuality. She is raw and fearless, while compassionate and sensitive. And social justice plays a big part in her work.
At Public Programs & Performances, we're interested in using arts and ideas to change your world. Few artists embody that mission better than Andrea Gibson. Check her out live, Friday, Oct. 17 at the Nourse Theater.
