Oratio and Contemplatio

Can academic life be a spiritual practice? In the rush to finish papers, think of something brilliant, or just make sense of a text, it’s easy to forget this possibility. Join us to explore how the monastic practice of Lectio Divina, or sacred reading, can revive meaning for your scholarship. Through experiential exercises and discussion, we will move into a space of reverence for our research topics and projects. In this state, all reality has the potential to become sacred text. If you are at work on a piece of writing, please bring it, though none is required. You may attend one or both workshops.
