This workshop, taught by Dr. Peter Levine, the founder of Somatic Experiencing® (SE), and Mariana Caplan, psychotherapist, yoga teacher, and founder of the Yoga & Psyche MethodTM, will introduce attendees to the foundational principles of SETM and demonstrate how trauma work is enhanced by yoga and other spiritual practices. For the first day, Dr. Levine will demonstrate how Somatic Experiencing® addresses trauma, seeing it as the consequence of trapped survival energy. Through a combination of theoretical explanation, demonstrations, and body-oriented exercises, participants will begin to develop a deep and intrinsic body awareness that helps to draw them into the vibrant experience of life-energy, flow, contact with the eternal now, and wholeness.
The second day of the workshop, taught by Dr. Caplan, will demonstrate how Somatic Experiencing principles, and tools can be directly applied to yoga practice, including breathwork, meditation, and partner work. By integrating Somatic Experiencing with yoga, psychotherapists, counselors, and trainees learn to use somatic techniques in their therapeutic work; and yoga teachers and practitioners learn to enhance the depth and breath of their yoga practice through its inclusion. As students find more flow in their emotional lives, they find more flow in their practice.
Peter A. Levine, PhD, holds doctorates in both medical biophysics and psychology. He is the developer of Somatic Experiencing®, a body-awareness approach to healing trauma, and founder of the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute, which conducts trainings in this work throughout the world. Dr. Levine was a stress consultant for NASA on the development of the space shuttle project. Levine's international bestseller, Waking the Tiger: Healing Trauma, has been translated into 22 languages. His contribution was honored in 2010, when he received the Lifetime Achievement award from the United States Association for Body Psychotherapy.

She is a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner in Levine's Somatic Experiencing method.
