Gary Luter teaches in the Department of Speech and Theatre at the University of Tampa. He received his Ph.D. in Theatre from the University of Florida. He has directed or performed in over seventy plays and has produced a number of theatre works at UT. He focuses on theatre pieces that have a vital social or political message. Previously--in another life--he had been a research chemist, and has taught organic and general chemistry at the college level. His two most recent appearances on stage were in his two favorite roles: Roy Cohn in Angels in America and Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest. He actively supports the Equality Project of the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network, an organization that promotes a safe environment for gay and lesbian students in secondary schools and he has been the adviser to UTampa Pride for the past 22 years.
