Come enjoy an intimate evening of conversation, where Dr. Elizabeth Ursic—author, scholar, spiritual director, and composer—will discuss her book, Women, Ritual, and Power. She will talk about her activism as board member and Women’s Task Force Chair at the 2018 Parliament of World Religions in Toronto. She will discuss the “1000 Women in Religion Project,” an initiative that highlights women’s religions leadership in Wikipedia. Dr. Ursic will also share some highlights of her musical career.
Dr. Elizabeth Ursic holds a MDiv from Yale Divinity School and the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, as well as a PhD in Religious Studies from Arizona State University. She specializes in the intersection of spirituality, gender, and the arts. She is Co-chair of the Women’s Caucus at the American Academy of Religion. She is author of Women, Ritual, and Power: Placing Female Imagery of God in Christian Worship (SUNY Press). In addition to her scholarship, Dr. Ursic is a spiritual director, pianist, cellist and composer.
Mara Lynn Keller, PhD, is Professor of Philosophy, Religion, and Women’s Spirituality at the California Institute of Integral Studies, where she directed Women’s Spirituality graduate studies, 1998-2008. Her research centers on Goddess cultures of Crete and Greece, and Women’s Visionary Culture (poetry, fiction, and film).
