Lucid dreaming-awareness in dreams-is a powerful practice of awakening to the great dimensions of our creative mind. The practice of lucid dreaming challenges our perception and habitual patterns and can lead to the practice of lucid waking. In this program, Bogzaran will focus on historical, scientific, and phenomenological research on lucid dreaming as well as discussion about the current dialogue about this subject. She will explore the cross-cultural view on lucid dreaming and address the topic in the context of spiritual experiences and development, creative inspirations, problem solving, and how the practice is used as an awareness vehicle for preparation for dying. Through innovative methods developed by Bogzaran, participants will learn awareness methods in waking and dreaming and learn practical and creative tools for viewing their dreams.
Fariba Bogzaran, PhD, scientist/artist founded the Dream Studies Program and taught graduate courses in dream studies at John F. Kennedy University for twenty-five years. One of the pioneers in the field of dream studies, she has trained students and professionals in innovative methods of dream awareness internationally since 1984. She worked with the Lucidity Project team at Stanford Sleep Laboratory in the 80s, and has been teaching the science and art of lucid dreaming for thirty years. Among her publications are two major academic co-authored books: Extraordinary Dreams (SUNY Press, 2002) and Integral Dreaming (SUNY Press 2012). She has written extensively on lucid dreaming including the first scientific research on the spiritual experiences in lucid dreaming (1989). Her approach to the topic is informed by her trainings in East-West psychology, art, and contemplative practices. She is the co-founder and creative director of the Lucid Art Foundation and adjunct faculty at CIIS. .
