About the Speakers
Key Presenter: Jamie Goodman, L.Ac.
Bio: Jamie Goodman, who holds a BS from UC Berkeley and a MS from the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Science, has been practicing Chinese Medicine in San Francisco for 18 years. She specializes in reproductive health and also treats a myriad of other conditions. Jamie noticed that many patients, male and female, young and old, and from all socioeconomic groups, were using cannabis. With changing laws, more patients had questions and were welcoming conversation about their cannabis use. So, in an effort to better serve patients, Jamie pursued the study of cannabis medicine. She would like acupuncturists and herbalists to have access to the current science and thinking about cannabis, in order to guide patients to improved health with respect to this herb.
Guest Speaker: Sara Payan
Bio: Sara Payan, who is a graduate of CIIS, will be sharing her experience as a cancer survivor and patient advocate. Sara is an award-winning cannabis educator specializing in cancer-related therapies, the Director of Education at the Apothecarium, writer, and patient advocate. Past experiences as a patient and her civil rights background made her passionate about educating people about cannabis, thereby creating safe access – and inspired her to create a compassionate consulting training program for those in the medical cannabis industry and beyond. She is the vice-chair of San Francisco’s State Cannabis Task Force, and has spoken at such conferences as Patients Out of Time, Women Grow, and The Women’s Visionary Congress. HealthMJ lists her as one of the “10 people who are leading the movement to inform patients about medical cannabis.” Her work has been highlighted in The Bay Area Reporter, Dope Magazine, Cannabis Now, and Ladybud.
