Psychotherapy has classically involved therapists keeping their personal lives private, both in and out of sessions. Most therapists now make special efforts to keep their social media accounts hidden as to not blur boundaries. However, when our passions call on us to show up in the public sphere with more of who we are, certain challenges arise and there are choices we have to make that fit how we want to be in the world personally and professionally, privately and publicly. Whether you are a writer, perform in a band around town, produce other kinds of media, or are engaged in activism, this talk can help think about the choices that will allow you to build the personal and professional life you want.

Lily Sloane (ICP '09) is licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a private practice in San Francisco. She specializes in working with sensitive, creative young adults struggling with eating disorders, substance misuse, perfectionism, and relationships. Lily is also creator and host of the podcast A Therapist Walks Into Bar, a show that aims to bring concepts from the couch to the pub and into your ears.
