Chantal Yazbek

PhD Student
Ecology, Spirituality, and Religion

Born and raised in South Africa, I have a B.A. Honors in Film Production and an M.A. in Middle Eastern History. My professional background spans 15 years of experience in all areas of media, communication, and the agricultural development sector, in Africa and the Middle East.

I am passionate about effecting change through the medium of storytelling, as well as through the advancement of sustainable cultural practices.

Enrolled in 2017 as a Doctoral student in Ecology, Religion and Spirituality at the California Institute of Integral Studies, my academic research focuses on societies relationship to agriculture and the modern production food chain. Through the observation and evaluation of the practices of a diverse range of ancient and modern agricultural based societies, I aim to better define how agriculture as a religious and spiritual practice in and of itself can contribute to ecological sustainability and assist in the alleviation of malnutrition and a more equitable distribution of community based wealth.
