School of Undergraduate Studies BIS 1331 3.00

This course will overview key theories of the individual, interpersonal and developmental neurobiology of trauma and trauma recovery, along with relevant concepts from psycho-immunology, neurophysiology and epigenetics. The neurobiology of trauma is a growing interdisciplinary sub-field of neuroscience which can serve as a pathway for students to develop competency in emergent scientific principles. In this course, students will cultivate the skills and confidence to read and evaluate diverse scientific literature and learn the basics of medical research. Finally, this course will allow students to cultivate a deeper understanding of the dynamics and consequences of individual, institutionalized and inter-generational trauma and how change and healing is possible within the individual body and more broadly within the social body or the body politic.
