We're sorry to announce that in light of concerns over the health of our community in a rapidly changing landscape, the opening event scheduled for Saturday, March 14, is being postponed. We have a poetry reading planned at the end of April, and in the meantime, the gallery is STILL OPEN. Please find your way to the gallery in ones and twos and threes to explore this collaborative project. We're also scheming about ways to bring some portion of this exhibition online, so stay tuned!
Poetry reading, Friday, April 24, 6:00PM
Prescriptions for Life is a collaboration between visual artist Paula Gray and poet Theresa Whitehill. Catalyzed by the chance find of a pharmacy prescription ledger from 1890, the artists explore the nature and promise of "prescriptions," the conception of the body and illness in Western medicine at the turn of the 20th century, and what remains life-affirming and necessary in the face of grief and mourning that accompanies the losses of a best friend, parents, and siblings. These long-time friends—who have known and respected each other's voices and work for decades—are collaborating for the first time.
