| The Student Exchange and
Visitor Information System or "SEVIS" was
implemented at CIIS in January 2003. SEVIS
is an on-line database created by the U.S.
government to permit immigration officials
to access current information recorded by
U.S. colleges and universities on non-immigrant
students holding F, M, and J visas.
The purpose of the system is to provide
the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services
with information regarding international
students' local and permanent addresses,
authorized employment activities, and current
registration status. It also permits colleges
and universities to create and update student
I-20s.
Regulations under the new SEVIS system
require that international students in F-1
status:
1. Report any address change to the International
Students Office within 10 days of the
address change.
2. Obtain authorization from the international
student advisor to drop below a full course
of study. Students must obtain permission
PRIOR to dropping below a full
course of study.
3. Notify the international student advisor
of your departure date from the U.S. and
the reason for an early departure.
