Shirley has been engaged in education, philanthropy, community building, and social action for nearly 30 years. Her academic experience includes service as an administrator at a variety of colleges and universities including the University of New Mexico, San Francisco State University, and Mills College. Shirley has spent the past 13 years as the Executive Director of Project Change, a Tide Center organization founded by the Levi Strauss Foundation, that develops and supports multi-racial community coalitions, partnerships, and alliances in local communities throughout the U.S. Shirley holds a master's degree in educational psychology/counseling from the University of Illinois, and she has studied in the doctoral program in counseling psychology at the University of San Francisco.

Mary Fries came to CIIS in 2005 with a B.S. in Mathematics from Mary Baldwin College and has completed her coursework for an M.A. in the Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness program. Throughout her time here, she has served as the Communications Coordinator for Student Alliance with whom she planned events, facilitated meetings and hiring processes, established organizational guidelines and procedures, and coordinated funding for student projects and campus groups. Mary's work background also includes both teaching and website design and database management. In addition to creating websites for Student Alliance, the PCC department, and Species Alliance, a non-profit organization that birthed out of PCC and that is committed to raising awareness about biodiversity issues, she has taught high school mathematics, directed children's theatre productions and camps, and worked at a Montessori school. Her intellectual interests lie at the intersections of philosophy and mathematical physics, particularly regarding the human perception and ontological status of dimensional concepts such as space, time, and matter. She recently presented at the Quantum Mind conference in Salzburg, Austria and will be sharing her ideas with the CIIS community this February at the Multiversity conference, which she will also be coordinating in her new role as Student Affairs Manager. Mary is excited to have the opportunity to extend her commitment to CIIS through this position and looks forward to a great year for the Dean of Students Office.

Before accepting this position, Becky was Core Faculty and Clinic Director in the Somatic Psychology Program and is an MFT Psychotherapist specializing in issues surrounding work, career, globalization and life transition. As Clinic Director, Becky helped to create pilot projects for students to work with the homeless as part of the San Francisco Homeless Outreach Team and with inmates at San Quentin prison through partnering with Insight Prison Project.

Jody joined the CIIS community in November 2005 as the International Student Advisor, bringing with her 3 years of international student advising experience and a deep appreciation and interest in world cultures. She assists F-1 visa students with immigration issues as well as other non-academic matters. She holds an interdisciplinary BA degree in Japan Business Studies from the University of Hawaii, Manoa and is an active volunteer at the Asian Art Museum and with the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. She spent 3 years in Shizuoka prefecture, Japan, teaching English on the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program. Jody’s goal is to help continue to build a welcoming place for international students at CIIS and in San Francisco. In her spare time, you will find Jody listening to music and taking urban hikes.
