Prenatal and perinatal psychology and therapy are based on research that illustrates prenates and neonates can feel, have consciousness, possess memories, and will even react according to their specific experiences. Evidence confirms that many health issues—physical, mental, emotional, spiritual—are linked to prenatal, birth, and parentinfant bonding experiences. Patterns created to deal with stress and trauma are initiated during this preverbal period and continue to influence us throughout our development. Should trauma occur during the formation of these patterns, significant and necessary work is required at the preverbal level to resolve them. Working somatically can offer deeply profound and often quick resolution to issues that previously responded less successfully to other therapeutic efforts.
The workshop addresses new discoveries within the fields of neuroscience, developmental psychology, and embryology. Participants will examine birth histories, learn about recapitulations and developments, and recognize traumatic patternings. Skills for resolution and prevention will also be introduced. Experiential work and audiovisual presentation will be offered.
Prenatal and perinatal psychology and therapy applies to infants and children, as well as adults. Medical and psychology professionals and students, parents (including potential and adoptive parents), and all those who seek to gain awareness about how early beginnings greatly affect adult life are encouraged to attend.
