Resiliency in the Therapeutic Process
Beth Miller

Resiliency is innate; individuals are born with the ability to restore order in their lives.  However, resilience can be damaged due to circumstances that lead to feelings of  being drained or overwhelmed. Beth Miller discusses the 12 core-being personality  traits—learned, developed, even cultivated—that lead to successful resiliency.

What is the resilient response to change and stress? How does working in a group  setting support an increase in thriving during difficult times? Using clinical and  research experience, the issues of resilience, strength, and optimism will be presented.  Additionally, by using interactive discussions and experiential techniques, the  skills, resources, and attitudes needed to foster a person’s capacity to bounce back  from challenging times will be explored.

Beth Miller, PhD, is a licensed psychologist who has been working with hundreds of  diverse clients: teaching, group facilitation, and private therapeutic practice. She has  studied and taught on the topic of resilience for over 15 years. Beth has engaged in  public speaking and led seminars throughout the country. She is the author of The  Woman’s Book of Resilience: 12 Qualities to Cultivate and designed the original  process. A former instructor at UCSF, she currently teaches at CIIS. Beth maintains a  private practice in San Francisco.
